“Common” is a series of photographs of my family. It’s an ode to my hometown Uzhhorod which is located in Zakarpattia Oblast in Western Ukraine. The story begins a few years before the invasion. After I moved to Kyiv in 2016, I usually photographed while going back to my family’s home. However, now after the start of the full-scale invasion I’m representing different visual experiences.
In February 2022, I escaped from Kyiv to Uzhhorod. In the first few months I began to analyse the connection between Earth and Death and I felt how the landscape changed around me under pressure and fear. The heroes of the story are Maria (my grandmother) and Anna (younger sister), who take part in land processing and continue farming practices for many years despite the effects of war.
